The video game platform Roblox has long been marketed as a safe digital playground for children. In early 2026, that reputation is facing renewed examination. Chris Hansen, the television host widely known for To Catch a Predator, is reportedly developing a documentary about child safety failures on the platform.

According to watchdog groups and child safety advocates, Roblox has become a hunting ground for predators. A July 2024 Bloomberg report found that US police had arrested around two dozen people since 2018 who were accused of abducting or abusing victims they had met or groomed on the game. The family of a 13-year-old girl filed a lawsuit after she was abducted by a 37-year-old man she met through Roblox. The state of Louisiana also filed a lawsuit against the company in a separate case on August 14.

These cases are not isolated. Bloomberg reported that the arrests stemmed from contacts made or relationships developed inside Roblox.
